The Oilprince - Trogir Malacka Heights
September 16th, 2020
Still a difficult summer - the one 2020. Eventhough we did manage the first wave of the Corona Virus in Europe, summer holidays and travelling showed an increase in touristic areas. To avoid new infections and to have a control Austria did from September on request a negative test to return from Croatia. Nevertheless it was worth it to go again to our friends appartment in Rogoznica and enjoy lonley times with almost no tourists and let this summer end in a perfect way.
Returning also ment to have a new idea for a nice ride and maybe also a nice video following the on from spring: Winnetou 4.0 - Lake Silver. I found a nice route with a climb that will offer good pictures. For the new vid it was more difficult, but as Knud had his speedboat in the water it came an idea to include this. The follow up video was decided and it was time to film and ride for the new Karl May edition: Old Shatterhand and the Oilprince.
The background was to compare the speedboat and a ride to primosten with my bike and a ride to Trogir. Already the boat trip was incredible and offered a cool day on the sea and a visit of the harbour in primosten to have a coffee and a beer.
It was time for the bike ride and the weather was perfect. Still nice hot temperatures during the day made me start the tour early in the morning. Sunrise as usual "Balm on the Soul" accompanied the first kilometers towards south east along the coast. Traffic was almost none as too early and no peak season anymore. The first highlight and also world heritage was Trogir after 27k. I was already often there but this time i made the Jackpot. No boats and no people in the main harbour. The town was laying there like on holiday itself.
It was time to get the real job done and so i left direction to Split the capital of the district Splitsko-Dalmatinska. Right inbetween the 2 cities around the airport there is a nice climb with a few switch backs up to Malacka. Reaching the top is amazing as the view is a wide one from Split to Trogir.
For the way back i choosed one more inside the country. Small but still good roads for a roadbike brought me to a main road connecting Sibenik and Trogir. From there it was a home (run) ride through small villages in the back country of Rogoznica. The last few k´s are on a higher located road above the coastal road with a nice lookout to Primosten and Rogoznica. Always nice to return with this impressions. A real high value ride.
