Santiago Canyon CA
As i had taken over the B2B Business in our US office i needed to travel to San Clemente considering to get a few training rides already in February.
It was the first overseas trip after covid and still difficult with vaccinations and tests. Nevertheless i found out that corona on the other side was treaten differently - meaning nobody cared about it. But it was good to be again in California and breath the american way of life.
The bike i got from Paul Ripke a german photographer that lives in Newport Beach where we all together, paul, helge - our general manager in US -, brian - the new sales manager - and me did a small warm up ride.
Weekends i had more time to do longer loops like the one to Santiago Canyon. Rolling over from San Clemente to Dana Point i took some bike paths leading to Mission Viejo to the inside of Orange County. Passing Mission Viejo i found some nice roads to finally reach the entrance to the county side. Right at the bottom of the hills there is the famous biker meeting point Cook´s Corner. From there the climb started entering Limestone Canyon Regional Park riding Santiago Canyon Road. Passing Irvine Lake i reached already the top of the ride descenting then to Tustin Foothills. As i reached the most northern point i t was time to find my way towards the coast again.
On a nice network of bike paths mainly along canals i past Irvine to get back to the ocean in Newport Beach. Now i needed to make my way riding PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) back to San Clemente enjoying the sun on the pier. A nice long distance for the start.
