New Orleans to Slidell

My wife Andrea and me were travelling to USA to attend the World Balloon Convention as she has a balloon shop and is offering decorations for different occasions. Therefore she needed to go to "school" to become a certified balloon artist.

We combinded our trip with holidays as the event was taking place in New Orleans. In the second half when she needed to do the different courses i took the chance to ride a bike there.

I had no clue riding in foreign countries this time and found a quite heavy Jamis bike at Michaels bicycle shop located downtown. Furtheron no clue where to go to my first ride was to Slidell on the other side of lake Pontchartrain. My first goal was to go around the whole lake but this was too long and also difficult regarding the roads and traffic. So i went the 90 north on the east of the lake over St Catherines Island but having already after 15k my first flat because of the dirty road. Reaching Slidell it is the route 11 south over a causeway bridge crossing lake Pontchartrain again which should bring me back to New Orleans. It was quite weired as i guess no other bicycle riders are using that road. Nevertheless i returned save to the hotel and had done my first ride on a different continent.
